Criminal Defence Paralegal, Birmingham, 12 months+ experience, £Competitive (DOE) - We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Criminal Defence Paralegal to join a busy Birmingham office. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a respected Criminal Law team, supporting solicitors on a varied caseload while gaining valuable hands-on experience in criminal defence work. THE ROLE:
• You will provide comprehensive legal and administrative support across a wide range of criminal matters.
• You will play an important part in ensuring cases progress efficiently while maintaining high standards of accuracy, compliance and client service.
• Assisting solicitors with the day-to-day management of criminal defence files from opening through to conclusion.
• Preparing legal documents, court bundles, correspondence and other case-related paperwork.
• Organising, scanning and electronically filing documents within the firm's case management system.
• Managing diaries, court dates, appointments and important deadlines to ensure matters are progressed promptly.
• Liaising with courts, police stations, prisons, counsel, experts and other agencies to obtain updates and arrange appointments or prison visits where required.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Previous experience working within a Criminal Law department.
• A good understanding of criminal procedure and Legal Aid work.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and empathetic approach.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using electronic case management systems.
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a supportive team.
• A proactive attitude with a willingness to take ownership of tasks and use initiative.
