Pastoral Officer

Full-Time | Monday to Friday | 8:15am 3:45pm

The Role
Monday to Friday
Hours: 8:15am 3:45pm

  • Providing pastoral and emotional support to pupils throughout the school day.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with children to improve engagement, attendance and wellbeing.
  • Supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including those with high levels of need.
  • Working with pupils who have experienced trauma, including Looked After Children (LAC) and those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Supporting the de-escalation of behaviours that may arise from emotional distress, anxiety or unmet needs, using positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Supervising school corridors and communal areas to promote pupil safety and wellbeing, helping to prevent pupils from leaving designated areas without authorisation.
  • Providing one-to-one pastoral support and wellbeing sessions for pupils, including responding to requests for support from pupils or their parents/carers, in line with the school's safeguarding and pastoral procedures.
  • Completing home welfare visits where required to support pupil attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding, building positive relationships with families and carers.
  • Working closely with teaching staff, SEND teams, safeguarding leads and external professionals to ensure pupils receive appropriate support.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, mental health, counselling, youth work, RMN or a related field.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on behaviour and learning.
  • Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs, SEMH needs or additional learning needs.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • A proactive, resilient and compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable children.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle, as the role requires completing home welfare visits within the local community.


Team Teach training is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided for the successful candidate.
