Our client is looking for a qualified Financial Accountant to join their UK & Ireland Finance team. You'll be responsible for statutory reporting, technical accounting, audit management and financial controls across multiple entities. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading international organisation, working on acquisitions, finance transformation projects and process improvements while collaborating with stakeholders across the UK & Ireland.
Joining a collaborative and fast-paced international business, you'll play a key role in ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting across multiple entities, while supporting business growth, acquisitions and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a largely remote role with travel to the Birmingham office a few times a month.
The Role
Reporting into the Finance leadership team, the Financial Accountant will take ownership of statutory reporting, technical accounting matters, financial controls and external audit management across the UK & Ireland businesses.
Working closely with finance colleagues and senior stakeholders, you'll provide expert technical accounting support, lead statutory reporting activities and contribute to finance transformation projects.
Key Responsibilities
As the Financial Accountant, you will:
- Prepare annual statutory financial statements for a portfolio of companies, ensuring compliance with IFRS, UK GAAP and all relevant statutory reporting requirements.
- Act as the technical accounting expert for the UK & Ireland business, providing guidance and support on complex accounting matters.
- Lead accounting workstreams relating to acquisitions and business integrations, including acquisition accounting and related disclosures.
- Manage lease accounting under IFRS 16, including responsibility for lease accounting systems and reporting.
- Oversee year-end group reporting submissions and lead the external audit process through to successful completion.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with external auditors, ensuring queries are resolved efficiently and reporting deadlines are met.
- Support group simplification initiatives and legal entity rationalisation projects.
- Identify and drive improvements to financial reporting, consolidation processes and finance systems, including supporting ERP implementation projects.
- Work closely with local tax teams to support annual tax provisions for group reporting, corporation tax computations and VAT returns where required.
- Collaborate with finance teams and stakeholders across the UK & Ireland to ensure robust financial controls, compliance and continuous improvement.
About You
Our client is looking for a technically strong accountant with excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the business.
You'll ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Significant post-qualification experience within financial accounting.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Experience preparing statutory financial statements within a multi-entity or international organisation.
- Exposure to mergers and acquisitions, including acquisition accounting.
- Experience leading external audits.
- A track record of improving financial controls and reporting processes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high level of attention to detail.
