Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Salary £50,000 / Negotiable
An established and growing food manufacturing business is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join its engineering team at a modern production facility in Birmingham.
This is a hands-on role focused on keeping production lines operating at maximum efficiency through effective reactive maintenance, preventative maintenance, fault finding, and continuous improvement activities.
Working closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams, you will play a critical role in minimising downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting site performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond quickly to machinery breakdowns and carry out root cause analysis.
- Complete reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults across production equipment.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately recorded and logged.
- Escalate significant downtime issues where required.
- Support line changeovers and start-up activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Maintain machinery to base condition standards.
- Adhere to GMP, food safety, quality, and health & safety requirements.
- Participate in daily engineering and production meetings.
- Support 5S, defect reduction, and continuous improvement programmes.
Requirements
- Experience as a Maintenance Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience working with production machinery and automated equipment.
- Understanding of preventative maintenance systems and root cause analysis.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
Desirable
- Food, FMCG, consumer goods, packaging, or similar manufacturing experience.
- Electrical qualifications and/or engineering apprenticeship.
- Knowledge of GMP and food safety standards.
