Are you an experienced Compliance Assistant looking for your next challenge? I’m currently working on a Compliance Assistant opportunity with a Legal 500 firm based in Birmingham.
This is a fantastic chance to join a busy, collaborative legal team, where you will take real ownership of client and entity onboarding within a modern case management system. The role is central to ensuring all new clients and matters are set up accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and AML requirements.
You’ll work closely with fee earners and wider teams to support smooth onboarding processes, while maintaining consistently high standards of accuracy, control, and attention to detail. The position also offers excellent learning and development opportunities, providing strong exposure to compliance processes within a high-performing legal environment and supporting long-term career growth in the legal sector.
Responsibilities include:
- Support fee earners with client onboarding and new matter creation
- Carry out conflict checks, AML checks, and ID verification
- Conduct national and international searches as required
- Set up and maintain new client and matter records within the case management system
- Ensure all records are accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory standards
- Monitor onboarding workflows, chasing outstanding actions and ensuring deadlines are met
- Respond to internal and client queries in a timely and professional manner
- Assist in producing onboarding guidance and improving internal processes
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the firm to ensure smooth delivery
About you:
- Previous experience in a similar role within legal or professional services (or transferable experience from finance/banking compliance environments)
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities
- Confident using Microsoft Office and legal or case management systems (Partner for Windows experience advantageous)
- Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to take ownership of tasks
