English Academic Coach

Could this be the school-based role that gives you the confidence to move into teaching? Are you looking for a route where you can start by supporting pupils in English and progress towards QTS?

*** English Academic Coach
*** Temp to Perm – September start
*** Initial salary £85 - £100 per day – QTS - £32,916 annual salary
*** Secondary school based near Birmingham City Centre
*** Opportunity to train as an English Teacher (gain QTS)

The Role:
Work with the English department to support pupils through 1:1 intervention, small-group academic support, and targeted help with reading, writing, analysis, and exam preparation. You will reinforce lesson content, build pupil confidence, and develop the classroom presence and subject knowledge needed for the next step into teacher training.

The Candidate:
You are articulate, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly in a way pupils understand. You want proper secondary school experience, enjoy helping students improve in English, and see this as a genuine route into teaching rather than just another temporary role.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, or a related subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This secondary school based near Birmingham City Centre offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants to prove themselves in the classroom and then progress. The temp to perm structure gives you the chance to build confidence in school first, work closely with an established English team, and move towards QTS in a setting that values subject knowledge, purposeful intervention, and future teachers.
