Senior Casualty Underwriter - #2079238

IPS Group is working closely with a global powerhouse Insurer who are looking to hire a new Senior Casualty Underwriter to join their Birmingham Office.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who’s already handling Casualty risks and is ready to step into a more senior role with added ownership and autonomy. This could either be a mono line Casualty Underwriter or a P&C Underwriter with a bigger focus on casualty as their main strength.

The focus isn’t just underwriting. You’ll be working closely with brokers to develop relationships working closely with the distribution team to help to grow the book. There’s a strong commercial angle to the role, so it’s as much about relationships and market presence as well as technical ability in equal parts.
The Birmingham team is still relatively small, which means you’ll have real visibility and the chance to influence things rather than just slotting into an established structure.

Key duties:

• Handling new and renewal Casualty business, including more complex risks
• Working directly with brokers and building long-term relationships
• Negotiating terms, pricing, and coverage decisions
• Identifying opportunities to grow the portfolio and bring in new business
• Supporting and mentoring less experienced underwriters

To be considered you must have solid Casualty / Liability underwriting experience combined with a commercial awareness to understand how to grow a book, not just maintain. Existing broker relationships and a good reputation in the market will be important.

There are big plans to continue to grow the Birmingham office with the backing their to expand. There is currently a variety of property and casualty and motor Underwriters as well as other niche lines. There is plenty of scope to develop the casualty offering locally whilst also working with other offices.
