The National Energy Hub (TNEH) is an award-winning energy & sustainability consultancy, helping organisations across the UK take control of their energy costs and decarbonise.
We're expanding our digital capability and looking for a freelance developer who can move across projects to completion.
The Role
You'll pick up a rolling set of small-to-medium projects across our digital estate:
- Theme development and prototypes
- Backend systems and API development
- WordPress (GeneratePress), possibly Kirby CMS, possibly Laravel TALL stack
Essential
- Hands-on Claude Code experience (or other AI Assisted Development tooling), you've built and managed skills, set up harnesses, and can talk through your approach.
- Based in the West Midlands, with 1-2 days a week in central Birmingham
What You'll Be Doing
- Building and iterating on WordPress themes (GeneratePress)
- Prototyping new ideas in HTML/JS before they get built
- Developing backend systems and APIs
- Picking up Kirby CMS or Laravel TALL stack work as projects land
- Setting up and managing Claude Code skills and harnesses
- Maintaining a solid GitHub workflow
- Building things securely from the start
