The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Communications Officer with a strong passion for energy and clean tech, ideally someone who’s already worked in or around the energy sector.
You’ll be the driving force behind transforming complex, technical insights into clear, engaging stories that inspire and inform diverse audiences, from industry peers to mainstream media.
You’ll bring a mix of creativity, strategic thinking, and excellent media relationships, helping to grow our profile and influence across the sector and beyond.
Crucially, we want someone who fits our culture: positive, flexible, collaborative, and open to trying new things - someone who’s ambitious and curious but also knows how to keep things light and supportive. A helpful and engaged team player who is as invested in those around as they are in driving forward their personal successes.
What you’ll do
- Translate technical reports, trial data, and complex ideas into compelling PR, blogs, social content, website copy, video scripts, and much more.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with journalists and media outlets, leveraging your existing contacts and developing new ones to raise our brand’s profile.
- Provide day-to-day support to the Head of MarComms and collaborate closely with teams across the Catapult to embed clear, exciting messaging.
- Being a guardian of tone and voice, ensuring all editorial guidance documents remain refreshed and clearly communicated throughout the organisation.
- Ensure all external communications are polished, purposeful, and tailored to the right audiences.
- Use your PR expertise to plan and execute media launches, press conferences, and campaigns that drive real impact.
- Respond swiftly and diplomatically to reactive media enquiries and develop smart media engagement strategies. This includes proactive engagement based on big news events, such as socio-economic factors, such as budgets, elections, and legislative reviews.
- Contribute across the MarComms function as needed - from internal comms and marketing to events and digital channels. Working hand in hand with our in-house social, events and marketing colleagues.
Who you are
- Passionate about energy and clean technology, ideally with experience in the sector or an associated industry or government dept.
- Educated to degree level or with equivalent workplace experience (preferably in Journalism, Media, Communications or related fields).
- A confident and vibrant copywriter who crafts snappy, targeted content with flair and clarity. But always accurate and error-free.
- Experienced in media planning, launches, and managing press relations with professionalism and creativity.
- Experience of using a media monitoring service such as PA Media or similar.
- Skilled at navigating complex stakeholder landscapes with diplomacy and ease.
- Proficient in IT and comfortable across digital, social, and traditional media platforms.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to engage diverse audiences clearly and persuasively.
- Resilient, adaptable, and able to juggle a varied workload with strong prioritisation skills.
- Positive, approachable, and supportive - you foster great team dynamics and welcome feedback.
- A diplomatic negotiator who can say “no” thoughtfully, focusing on what truly drives the right outcomes for the organisation and its stakeholders.
