Job Purpose:
As a Substance Misuse Experienced Nurse , you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care and support to individuals dealing with drug and alcohol dependency. Contributing to a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will focus on assessments, treatment plans, and interventions to support service users in managing substance use and improving their overall health and well-being
What you will do:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of service users with substance misuse issues
Develop and implement personalised treatment plans, employing a holistic and person-centred approach
Administer prescribed medications, including opioid substitution therapy, in accordance with clinical guidelines
Provide harm reduction advice, including safer injecting practices, overdose prevention, and blood-borne virus screening
Collaborate with social workers, mental health professionals, GPs, and other healthcare providers for integrated care
Actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and case conferences
Engage closely with community support services to support service users on their recovery journey
Identify and manage safeguarding concerns following local policies and procedures
Conduct risk assessments and create risk management plans to secure the safety of service users and the public
Keep precise and timely clinical records as per professional and legal standards
Deliver education and advice on harm reduction, relapse prevention, and health improvement initiatives
Assist service users in accessing broader health and social care services, such as mental health and housing support
Provide training and guidance to colleagues as necessary to enhance service delivery
Minimum Requirements:
Registered Nurse (RGN/RMN) with current NMC registration
Previous experience in substance misuse, addictions, or mental health nursing
A robust understanding of harm reduction, detoxification, and relapse prevention strategies
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
Strong communication and interpersonal skills suited for engaging with a diverse base of service users
Qualification in addictions, mental health, or public health
Experience with community-based substance misuse services
Training in motivational interviewing or cognitive-behavioural approaches
