What you’ll do:
The Cyber Defence Manager plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the organisation’s IT infrastructure by leading and evolving the vulnerability management function. This role is responsible for identifying, assessing, and driving the remediation of security vulnerabilities. By using industry-leading vulnerability management tools and collaborating with key partners, the Vulnerability Manager ensures that risks are effectively prioritised and addressed in alignment with business objectives. This position is crucial to maintaining a robust security posture and minimising the organisation’s exposure to cyber threats.
As this role operates within a dynamic Security Operations environment, there may be occasions where you will be required to provide surge capacity in response to emerging security incidents or newly identified vulnerabilities. This includes stepping in to support urgent investigations, remediation efforts, or other time-sensitive security activities that may arise to protect the business.

As this role operates within a dynamic Security Operations environment, there may be occasions where you will be required to provide surge capacity in response to emerging security incidents or newly identified vulnerabilities. This includes stepping in to support urgent investigations, remediation efforts, or other time-sensitive security activities that may arise to protect the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the end-to-end vulnerability management lifecycle, from identification to remediation.
- Operate and maintain vulnerability scanning tools.
- Ensure timely and accurate scanning of the organisation’s configurable assets.
- Collaborate with teams and key partners to prioritise and remediate vulnerabilities.
- Own and evolve the organisation’s vulnerability management strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and threat landscape.
- Define and maintain a roadmap for continuous improvement of vulnerability management capabilities.
- Champion a risk-based approach to vulnerability management across the organisation.
- Produce regular reports and dashboards on vulnerability trends, remediation status, and risk posture for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support audit and compliance activities by providing evidence and documentation.
- Evaluate and recommend enhancements to tools and processes.
- Drive automation and integration of vulnerability management into broader security operations.
- Lead, mentor and develop security professionals responsible for vulnerability management activities.
- Demonstrable experience in information security, with a focus on vulnerability management and security operations.
- Good understanding of relevant threat actors.
- Proven working knowledge of relevant frameworks.
- Proven experience with vulnerability management platforms, particularly Qualys.
- Solid grasp of CVSS scoring, vulnerability lifecycle, and remediation workflows.
- Ability to interpret vulnerability data and communicate risk effectively.
- Familiarity with infrastructure, cloud, and application security principles.
- Any recognised security certifications will be considered, with value placed on those focused around vulnerability and risk management
- Consistent track record in stakeholder and partner/vendor management and collaboration across various departments.
