Are you ready to use your legal expertise to help drive real change in local government? We’re looking for a Senior Lawyer to join our highly respected Local Government Governance team at Anthony Collins Solicitors - a firm with purpose at its core.
As part of our specialist projects team, you’ll work with councils across the country, supporting senior officers and Monitoring Officers in navigating some of the most important decisions facing local authorities today. With increasing opportunities arising from the Government’s Devolution White Paper, your work will be varied, strategic, and deeply impactful.
The role can be based at either our Birmingham Head Office or our Manchester city centre office. We operate a hybrid working model, with a minimum of two days a week spent in the office and the remainder typically worked from home.

What you'll be doing:
- Advising Monitoring Officers and senior leadership on governance, constitutional, and decision-making processes.
- Handling governance matters relating to chief officer employment issues.
- Providing expert input on company governance and standards investigations.
- Supporting local government reorganisation and structural change projects.
- Leading on high-quality client materials, training, and sector thought leadership.
- You will have significant experience in local government law - ideally as a Monitoring Officer or Deputy.
- A calm, confident and approachable advisor, trusted by clients to help them navigate complex and often sensitive matters.
- A natural team player who thrives in a collaborative and values-led environment.
- You will have a strong sense of purpose and commitment to the public sector and making a social difference.
