Job Introduction

BBC Verify is the specialist forensic journalism team within BBC News, with a wide range of investigative skills in fact-checking, data journalism, video verification, and open source intelligence (Osint).

Since our launch in May 2023, BBC Verify has been pioneering a new form of transparent journalism, showing our workings as we counter disinformation, analyse data and explain complex stories in the pursuit of truth with no agenda.

As our specialist Environment Researcher, you will bring expertise in climate science to help our correspondents and reporters break original stories and explain important issues to an audience keen to know more.

Main Responsibilities

You will be expected to make major contributions towards the creation and development of our award-winning journalism that will run on the BBC News website, as well as on TV, radio and social media.

This will include briefing reporters, correspondents and producers on interpreting climate science; at other times you will investigate claims made in public debate, assessing how credible they are using a combination of original research and your own specialist knowledge.

You will also write your own content for BBC output including our live pages, articles and broadcast output, and pitch your own ideas for original stories.
