Job description

The Team

You'll be joining our Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG), within our broader Infrastructure, Government and Health Deals capability. KPMG UK's Infrastructure Government and Healthcare (IGH) business is widely recognised as a leading financial and commercial adviser across the public sector and on projects of national importance. This advice, amongst other things, ranges from major system design, economic case making, transaction support, design of efficient operational process and technology enablement.

Our purpose is to support the projects that improve the fabric of our nation, and other nations around the world trying to improve the economic functioning and social wellbeing of their society.

Our healthcare advisory business is a critical plank in that. Healthcare is undergoing rapid change. The needs of an ageing population are becoming more complex, treatments more administratively complex, and technology adoption critical to its effective implementation. Our team advises across that - we are amongst the market leaders in service transformation, capital project delivery and technology implementation.

The Role

We are looking for a Director to lead our Commercial Projects business focussed on the NHS. The team sits at the cross section of KPMG leading healthcare advisory business, and its Deal Advisory capability. The Director will focus on the market need for NHS organisations at all levels to increase their commercial focus and organisation in areas such as generating additional income, accessing additional capacity through deals with the independent sector or utilising their asset base better.

This may include advice around partnerships, joint ventures, group structures and significant contracts. The Director will lead a team covering a breadth of services in these areas ranging from opportunity identification, business case processes, commercial and financial advisory services to resulting ventures.

The ideal candidate will be well versed and credible in operating in the healthcare sector, corporate finance skills and experience of complex transactions and approval processes in the public sector.

Whilst the role is focussed on healthcare, there is opportunity to apply the same skills to adjacent sectors facing similar issues.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Director provides leadership to the team, working closely with other Directors and Partners across the business to lead our market strategy, client delivery and business development activity. This includes:
• Leading market relationships with key clients and potential clients
• Development of propositions for client, based on experience of the sector
• Identifying and pursuing opportunities for KPMG in target organisations
• Collaborating across various teams in the business, bringing a multidisciplinary offering to our clients
• Building enduring client relationships and network building

  • Leading proposals and pitch development for new business

  • Senior leadership of client engagements

• Providing robust commercial insight in client problems
• Overseeing the delivery of client deliverables, including having responsibility for quality assurance and risk management related to deliverables
• Playing a key role in developing the strategy of the team in target sectors and markets
• Providing training, guidance and leadership to the junior team members
• Having senior input into team headcount and recruitment decisions
• Any other duties commensurate with the senior nature of the role.

This role is UK based, although occasional international travel may be required.

The Person

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• Independent thinker with the ability to identify and solve problems
• Significant experience in a healthcare advisory or similar environment
• Meaningful involvement in corporate or project finance, deal advisory or similar commercial roles, preferably in an advisory context
• Credibility amongst senior leaders in the NHS

  • Demonstrable ability to build and lead client relationships

  • Experience of managing complex, multidisciplinary, internal and external teams.

• Strong in written and oral advice
• Solid grasp of numerical analysis
• Team leadership experience, comfortable directing and coaching others
• Ability to remain patient with the occasional administrative bureaucracy that comes with working in a large regulated professional services organisation.
If you hit all, most or even some of these attributes we would be delighted to hear from you.

We welcome applications from those seeking flexible working patterns
