RTL Group have An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Director to join a leading Tier 1 main contractor in the West Midlands, supporting the delivery of high-value, complex construction schemes valued in excess of £100 million.

Reporting directly to the Regional Director, you’ll be involved from tender stage through to final handover, overseeing all aspects of project delivery including risk, programme, commercial performance, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Construction

  • Lead tender teams including Estimator, Construction Manager, QS, and external consultants

  • Develop competitive bids with method statements, programmes, and risk registers

  • Prepare and manage procurement strategies and early supply chain engagement

  • Support early-stage design, planning, and stakeholder liaison

Construction Phase

  • Finalise and manage the Project Execution Plan (PEP)

  • Lead contract commencement processes, including programme and quality control

  • Manage and mitigate risk throughout project lifecycle

  • Oversee subcontractor vetting and supply chain coordination

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards

Post-Construction

  • Deliver client aftercare service and manage defect resolution

  • Protect contractual position while maintaining strong client relationships

  • Capture feedback, references, and project close-out documentation

  • Support long-term business development opportunities through client satisfaction

Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering high-value (£100m+) construction projects

  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, design processes & BIM

  • Strong understanding of Building Regulations, H&S, and commercial contracts

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to lead teams, drive performance and manage key stakeholders

  • Relevant academic or professional qualifications (e.g., MCIOB, CEng, MICE)

  • Experience with CVRs, PEP development, contract management and project controls

  • IOSH for Directors, CDM/PSCS Awareness, and familiarity with BBS and Root Cause Analysis

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH Certificate

  • Strong network in the Midlands construction market

  • Track record of securing and delivering repeat business
