We are looking for an Engineering Technical Lead to help us find answers to some of our industry’s bigger long-term water resource challenges.

Do you have a strong background in providing technical leadership on large capital projects, with a strong ability to lead input into multiple projects when required. You will have an engineering background and experience of leading a team of design engineers, from feasibility through outline design into detailed design, construction, and commissioning. With experience in the water industry or utilities sector, you will be a technical expert in your engineering discipline.

Are you experienced in building effective working relationships with others from a range of organisations?

Well, if you are, read on.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are looking for someone to play a pivotal role in delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects that secure the UK’s water future. As an Engineering Technical Lead, you’ll drive the design and delivery of Strategic Resource Options (SROs) – innovative schemes tackling drought risk and shaping long-term water resilience.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead engineering delivery from concept to completion across multi-million-pound SROs.
  • Collaborate with regulators, consultants, and partner water companies.
  • Define, scope, and manage engineering workstreams to meet RAPID gate milestones.
  • Develop smart, sustainable solutions – not just the cheapest.
  • Own cost modelling, operating regimes, and regulatory submissions.
  • Champion innovation, efficiency, and environmental impact.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

The successful candidate will be a seasoned engineering professional with a passion for collaboration, innovation, and delivering real impact. You thrive in complex, multi-stakeholder environments and bring both technical expertise and strategic insight to the table.

We’re Looking For

  • A proven track record of leading high-value, multi-disciplinary water projects.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills – you build trust with regulators, consultants, and partners.
  • Deep understanding of UK water and environmental legislation, with an eye on future changes.
  • Awareness of the regulatory, political, and environmental forces shaping the industry.
  • Experience working within NEC frameworks and delivering through collaborative teams.

You’ll Stand Out If You Have

  • Professional chartership (or a clear path to it).
  • A relevant engineering degree – or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • The ability to inspire and lead technical teams by example.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.

We do more, because we care.

What’s In It For You

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.

  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
