As PJA continues to grow and expand, we are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Ecologist to support our Nature Technical Director in a variety of exciting projects.
PJA is a leading team of transport, engineering, nature and placemaking specialists with offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, London, Manchester, Reading, Perth and Melbourne.
We provide expert advice on a wide range of projects across the UK and beyond from new settlements and nationally strategic infrastructure projects, through to urban regeneration schemes and a wide range of education, employment and sports and leisure developments.

We are now looking for a Nature Consultant (Ecologist grade) to join our growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a person with a strong background in Ecology and biodiversity net gain and great organisational skills, to advance their career with our growing, highly successful organisation.

KEY SKILLS
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex ecological data and provide clear recommendations.
- Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills to ensure high-quality data collection and reporting.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, delivering presentations, and engaging with stakeholders.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to achieve biodiversity goals.
- Experienced on the Statutory biodiversity metric
- Report drafting and reviewing
- Leading protected species surveys
- Managing small scale projects
- Supporting larger scale projects
- Managing the Nature Services technical library
- Supporting innovation and research
- Liaising with the client, statutory bodies and local planning authorities
- Relevant degree in Ecology or environmental sciences
- Master’s degree (desirable)
- Associate Membership (or working towards achieving this)
- Protected species survey licences (desirable)
- At least 3 years of relevant previous experience
- Driver’s License
- Health and Safety: Commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards during fieldwork and in the office.
