Senior Biomedical Scientist and Quality Lead | Pathology | Private Hospital | Full Time 37.5 hours per week, Permanent | Solihull

Spire Parkway Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist and Quality Lead to join our Pathology department.

Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, West Midlands, offers a comprehensive range of private hospital services. Our hospital is rated Good by the CQC for all parts of the inspection except for Patient Care, which is rated Outstanding. The report states that staff treat patients with compassion and kindness, respect their privacy and dignity, consider their individual needs, and help them understand their conditions. They provide emotional support to patients, families, and carers. Our dedicated hospital team is passionate about excellent patient care, offering a range of specialist treatments across Birmingham, Warwickshire, and the West Midlands. This includes diagnostic services, rehabilitation, cutting-edge surgical procedures, and excellence in fields such as orthopaedics, women’s health, and cancer care. The hospital has 51 bedrooms and five operating theatres.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Assist in organising, managing, and developing services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across multiple services provided by the laboratory at the Hub Hospital, supporting pathology services at spoke site hospitals.


• Liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective services.


• Lead the local implementation of the pathology quality management system, in accordance with UKAS requirements and corporate recommendations.


• Coordinate with the National Pathology Quality Management Team regarding local hub and spoke laboratory Quality Management systems and accreditation status.


• Participate in the pathology services multi-disciplinary on-call service after appropriate training and competence assessment.


• Maintain a safe working environment for self, colleagues, patients, and others by monitoring work areas and practices for hazards, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.


• Work with the Quality Manager and other Quality Leads across Pathology to ensure compliance and maintenance of all aspects of the Quality Management System (QMS).


• Work flexibly according to service needs, which may include extended working hours and participation in on-call duties.

Who we're looking for:

• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist


• Degree qualification, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences, or equivalent, enabling eligibility for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences


• Quality Management Qualification


• Relevant NHS or private hospital experience


• Experience working in a laboratory setting with exposure to challenging working conditions


• Ability to work within a performance-driven culture while maintaining safety standards


• Willingness to travel for company business and share expertise across hospital locations

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
