Are you a strategic and innovative leader with a passion for developing talent? We are seeking a dynamic Head of Learning & Development to lead our comprehensive learning strategy across all divisions.

As a pivotal team member, you will design and implement a scalable learning strategy, leveraging AI, digital tools, and personalised learning pathways to enhance our colleagues’ skills, performance, and career development.

With over 500 funeral homes, 45 crematoriums, and a wide range of support functions between Sutton Coldfield and Maidenhead, your role will be to shape our learning culture, ensuring colleagues at all levels have access to impactful, inclusive, and future-focused learning experiences.

The Role

This is a strategic leadership role that blends innovative learning design with strong stakeholder management.

You will be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing a scalable, data-informed learning strategy across all business units.
  • Leading the delivery of onboarding, induction, regulatory, and compliance training.
  • Leveraging digital tools, including the Learning Management System (LMS), to personalise learning and track performance.
  • Maximising the use of the apprenticeship levy and developing clear career pathways.
  • Partnering with senior leaders and HRBPs to identify skills gaps and develop targeted learning solutions.
  • Managing external training providers to ensure high-quality, cost-effective delivery.
  • Fostering a learning culture through continuous professional development, mentoring, and leadership programs.
  • Managing and developing a team of L&D professionals.
  • Ensuring efficient and effective use of the L&D budget.


About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has extensive experience in a senior L&D leadership role, ideally in a multi-site, customer-facing environment.
  • Is passionate about designing impactful learning solutions and building future skills.
  • Understands the complexities of delivering learning at scale and is comfortable with digital learning platforms.
  • Is a strategic thinker with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Has a proven track record of developing high-performing L&D teams.


Desirable experience:

  • Strong knowledge of UK apprenticeship standards, levy funding, and regulatory training requirements.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and AI-powered learning tools.
  • Qualified in psychometric ability testing and profiling.
