JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Business Development Manager to join our team.

You will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, driving growth and cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders, in the defense and emerging space industry. Your strategic vision and proactive approach will be essential in expanding our presence and achieving our business goals in this sector.

  • Salary Range £60,000 -£82,000 (based on experience)
  • Incentive Team Based Selling
  • Working Hours 35hr, 5 day week, compressed 9 day fortnight
  • Location Hybrid, Onsite, Remote (West Midlands)

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Meet assigned targets for profitable sales volume and strategic objectives in assigned customers or platforms.
  • Develop and manage relationships with targeted platforms and their business leaders.
  • Identify new customers, markets, and platforms beneficial to the strategic plan.
  • Maintain existing customers engaged through partnership with the program teams.
  • Communicate status and actions for leads, prospects and customers.
  • Maintain a sales forecasting capability to make possible efficient scheduling, provide customer service, controlling costs, provide information for business planning, resource planning and budgeting.
  • Utilize Salesforce to manage new & existing business opportunities, support forecasting & business planning activities
  • Keep well informed on industry changes, participate in organisations directly involved with our prime markets, and continually work to improve sales techniques and sales knowledge.
  • Analyse and provide objective, in-depth understanding of customers, competitors and product performance to improve sales performance as well as act as liaison with various internal departments to solve issues as they arise with both customers and program managers.
  • Draft marketing materials, press releases and social media postings as appropriate.
  • Coordinate trade show participation – including messaging, booth location and demo/display product selection.

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent public speaking skills.
  • Sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Good understanding of management practices and techniques.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibits the ability to prioritise tasks and complete them in a high-pressure environment.
  • Displays the ability to work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
  • Exhibits self-motivation, the ability to multitask and pay close attention to small details.
  • Must have good computer skills and be proficient at managing client databases and computer sales programs.

Education And Experience

  • Experience with complex Space, Aerospace, or Military systems and markets and a demonstrable track record of successfully identifying, pursuing, and closing business opportunities within the sector
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the defence industry, including key players, market trends, and procurement processes, particularly within the Land sector
  • General understanding of the European space market
  • Track record of securing opportunities of circa £3m - £10m
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) preferred
  • 10 years' experience leading customer-facing engagements in applicable market areas,

alternatively, 5 years' experience with 10 years in a role within the market sector (ex-Forces)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances for working in the defence sector
  • Commitment to travel for customer meetings, industry events, and business development activities within the UK, Europe and further afield as required
