I am looking for an experienced Design Manager to lead the delivery of engineering design projects in the power transmission and distribution sector. This role will involve working closely with the Engineering Director to manage projects from concept to completion.

Contract length: 6 months (high chance of extensions)

Location: Birmingham

Rate: Daily outside IR35

Working type: Hybrid

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the delivery of design projects, ensuring adherence to best practices (APM, PMP, PRINCE2 or similar).


• Lead project teams and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.


• Manage safety, health, environmental, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.


• Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams and report on project progress.


• Support proposal preparation, contract negotiations, and presentations.


• Promote a Safety by Design approach.


• Contribute to business development and identify new opportunities.


• Mentor and support team members.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline related to electricity transmission and distribution.


• Minimum of 3 years design services experience in the power transmission & distribution industry.


• Knowledge of project management, engineering design management, and UK Health & Safety legislation.


• Familiarity with National Grid’s procedures and NEC contracts.


• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including MS Project.


• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.


• Relevant Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH).
