The role

As Head of Stations, you will set and lead the strategic direction for our 23 stations across the West Coast, spanning from London to Edinburgh. Reporting to the Customer Experience Director, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, driving transformational change, fostering innovation, and championing a high-performance culture across our stations.

Your role will be pivotal in balancing customer satisfaction, commercial performance, regulatory compliance, and contract obligations, while cultivating strong relationships with key external stakeholders. You will play a crucial role in positioning Avanti West Coast as the transport provider of choice, supporting customers and communities along the West Coast route.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement station strategies to enhance customer satisfaction, service quality, and commercial performance.
  • Inspire and develop Customer Experience and Station Managers, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence
  • Ensure compliance with NRC, ABP, and DfT obligations, maintaining regulatory and contractual standards
  • Manage station budgets, contracts, and revenue streams to ensure long-term commercial sustainability and success.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, trade unions, and regulatory bodies to drive station improvements and workforce engagement.
  • Oversee safety initiatives, emergency response planning, and special event management to create a seamless passenger experience.
  • Own and deliver operational targets and business KPIs, ensuring performance meets and exceeds expectations

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven leadership experience in a multi-site, complex operational environment, with a track record of setting and delivering strategic visions for long-term success.
  • Expertise in leading change while maintaining constructive industrial relations within a unionised environment.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with experience working across internal teams and external partners
