Software Engineer – Java / Full Stack

Location: Bristol, Cheltenham, Midlands, Swindon, Bath, Cardiff, South Manchester

Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 (depending on experience)

We are looking for experienced Software Engineers to join an expanding team, working on critical projects within a highly secure environment. This role offers the opportunity to develop high-impact software solutions that drive national security and operational efficiency.

The Role:

As a Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and delivering bespoke software solutions. You will work within an Agile team, leveraging modern technologies and best practices to create scalable and secure systems. Your expertise will contribute to the development of mission-critical applications that support key government and defence operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement high-quality software solutions using Java and Spring Boot for back-end development, or Java, JavaScript, and React for full-stack applications.


• Build and maintain continuous integration pipelines using tools such as GitLab to ensure software quality and security.


• Deploy and manage applications across public cloud environments, including AWS and Azure.


• Collaborate closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver tailored solutions.


• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and architecture design to implementation, testing, and deployment.


• Engage with clients regularly, ensuring software meets operational needs and security standards.

Required Experience:

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience in software engineering, ideally within high-security or complex technical environments.


• Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot (for back-end) or Java, JavaScript, and React (for full-stack).


• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and DevOps tools for CI/CD.


• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and software development best practices.

Security Clearance:

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be eligible for security clearance with the UK Government. Some roles may require higher levels of National Security Vetting, necessitating a minimum of 5 to 10 years of continuous UK residency. Restrictions may apply based on nationality, previous nationalities held, or place of birth.
