Finance AssistantLocation: Hybrid basis, 2 days a week onsite at West Midlands Employers' Office within Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Contract Type: 12 months with potential for Permanent opportunity Pay Rate: £13.69 per hour PAYE. Hours: Full-Time: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5pm with 30-minute unpaid break. OR Part-Time: Applications for 18+ hours per week will also be considered, with specific schedule to be discussed during hiring process. (Please indicate number of hours offered)Job Purpose West Midlands Employers, in partnership with Opus People Solutions, is looking to recruit a Finance Assistant to work closely with its existing Finance Assistant as part of our busy and collaborative finance team. Potentially a temporary to permanent opportunity adding capacity to our finance function and offering the chance to grow and develop within a professional public sector organisation. This role is on a hybrid basis with a requirement to work onsite within the Jewellery Quarter office and would suit an individual seeking to further their Finance career within a supportive and structured environment.Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, including: Sales ledger, Purchase ledger, Cash and Banking.
- Preparing and inputting financial data into the SAGE 50 accounting system or excel spreadsheets.
- Supporting administration of cashbook services, including: Bank reconciliations and online credit card payments.
- Contributing to the management of the credit control system by processing receipts and ensuring timely payments by debtors.
- Monitor and respond to enquiries from two high-volume email inboxes.
Essential Skills & Experience
- AAT qualified (level 2+) or equivalent demonstrable experience in a comprehensive finance role.
- Proficient in working with financial management systems (SAGE 50 desirable but not essential).
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including data tracking and manipulation.
- Minimum of 12 months' recent experience in a financial management system covering sales, purchase, and cash ledgers.
- Experience working with online CRM or other business systems and platforms.
- Knowledge of credit control processes and the ability to support financial reporting activities.
- Experience managing high-volume email communication and interacting professionally with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Established track record working within financial policies, procedures and compliance frameworks.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, contributing to shared goals and supporting colleagues.
