The Attorney is to serve as in-house counsel and will therefore be asked to handle a wide range of legal and business matters under the supervision and guidance of an existing legal team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:
Contracts:
- Drafting, reviewing, revising, and/or negotiating contracts in multiple contexts (e.g., Transportation, IT, Facilities, NDAs, Employment, Real Estate, etc.).
- Contract management and organization.
Labor & Employment:
- Draft and revise personnel and onboarding forms (e.g., handbooks, paid time off, drug testing, attendance, etc.).
- Revise job descriptions to ensure compliance with applicable law and support FLSA exemption determination.
- Enforce restrictive covenant agreements.
- Guard and defend against litigation or threatened litigation.
Insurance & Claims:
- Assist in the renewal process of our sophisticated insurance program for property and casualty exposures.
- Analyze claims data in existing systems and provide data analytics reports to the General Counsel.
Compliance:
- Conduct audits and put in place policies and procedures to ensure compliance with myriad laws, such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, paid leaves, I-9/E-Verify, etc.
- Screen internal customers for SDN/OFAC compliance.
- Environmental related activity tracking and permitting
- ESG
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Juris Doctorate with outstanding academic performance demonstrated.
- Admission in good standing to the Bar and licensed in Alabama or other U.S. jurisdiction, as applicable.
- At least 3 – 5 years of experience practicing business law (contracts, audits, employment).
- Experience in the transportation industry preferred.
- Experience with procurement processes, such as RFP (Request for Proposal) process, negotiation of contracts, and drafting contractual clauses.
- Experience representing a company in legal proceedings.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a very fast-paced, changing environment and the ability to juggle several priorities at the same time.
- Exceptional written communication skills and an ability to engage effectively with a variety of levels and audiences.
- Ability and confidence necessary to work independently and across multiple functions in a collaborative/team environment.
- Ability to utilize time efficiently to resolve issues and meet multiple deadlines.
- Ability to communicate verbally, in person, and by telephone in a confident, articulate manner.
- Extremely detailed/accuracy oriented.
- Ability to make confident, supportable decisions in time-sensitive situations.
- Ability to multitask and follow up effectively.
A Successful Attorney:
Must consistently demonstrate the company’s Mission and Values. They must have good oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact with customers, drivers, and other team members in person and on the telephone. They must be customer service-oriented as well as team-oriented and must have good organizational skills. A successful Attorney must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Finally, they must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
