We have new vacancies for enthusiastic Portering Team Leaders to join our Trust. Working a rotating shift pattern, the service operates 24/7 and you will join a team responsible for the effective delivery of the in-house Portering service. This is a great opportunity to develop your skillset within the environment of the NHS.


Portering Team Leaders will take on a variety of tasks, resulting in first-line Management helping and assisting staff members through sickness reviews, appraisals, and a host of in-house training including BOC Medical Gas Training to Fire Marshal training.


You will be responsible for the coordination and monitoring of over 100 Porters and their duties while providing an effective and efficient high-quality Portering service to all clinical and non-clinical areas, offering support and on-the-job training for staff as required and liaising with the Portering Management Team to discuss issues arising from the provision of the Portering Service.

Main duties of the job

What's involved:



  1. Lead, motivate, and monitor staff in order to provide an efficient and effective Portering Service to all clinical and non-clinical areas.

  2. Ensure all staff know their duties and have the sufficient skills, training, and materials to complete these to a high standard within their allocated areas.

  3. Ensure the contracted service is delivered on a timely basis to the required standard in line with policies and procedures.

  4. Engage with clinical and non-clinical staff to organise and allocate resources to optimise service delivery.

  5. Undertake regular checks to ensure relevant equipment (wheelchairs, trolleys, or beds) is functional and safe to be used during the service, reporting faults or loss.

  6. Attend Air Ambulances in a timely manner providing an effective fire and rescue service.

  7. Ensure department guidelines such as dress code and infection control procedures are followed at all times.

  8. Assist in the planning of the shift rosters, ensuring relevant cover throughout the year.

  9. Work within NHS Standard Financial Instructions and ensure spend on Bank staff is authorised correctly and within delegated limits.

Person Specification
Qualifications

  • Basic Education to Senior School Level

  • Numerate and literate

  • Successful completion of aviation fire training on a regular basis to retain a certificate of competence

  • Certificate in or evidence of working towards first line supervisory management or willingness to achieve


Experience

  • Supervisory experience

  • Experience of working within the NHS


Additional Criteria

  • Ability to analyse and resolve staff shortage problems

  • Willingness to train individuals and groups of staff

  • Demonstrate flexibility to the needs of the service

  • Ability to deploy team of porters, prioritise urgent requests and deploy staff rotas

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to implement change in the delivery of portering services and recommend change in service delivery

  • Health and Safety at Work regulations

  • Reliable

  • Punctual

  • Must be physically fit to move trolleys and chairs as required

  • Ability to work shifts

  • Role of Facilities Management within the NHS
