The post holder will be pivotal in the designing, implementation and delivery of education and development within all aspects of maternity. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that education and support is up to date with the latest evidence to generate effective learning and professional development.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Professional Practice Team who work closely for the development and support of the multi-professional team within maternity. This team comprises of Practice Development, Preceptorship and Professional Midwifery Advocacy services, working cohesively to support and develop staff, as well as having close working relationships with the wider team such as governance, to generate improvements in services and outcomes for women and their families.


Specific Key Responsibilities:



  1. Review and support current training packages and educational resources. In partnership with the Professional Practice and Maternity risk and governance Team, Obstetricians, Professional Midwifery Advocates (PMA's), HEIs and local training and education boards/networks; develop creative ways of learning by building on what currently works well and be innovative in using opportunities and different methods/ways to improve learning.

  2. Maintain accurate records on the Trust training database.

  3. Support, develop and deliver safe, effective and outstanding care for women and their families.

Person Specification
Qualifications

  • Registered Midwife

  • Evidence of first-degree level study or equivalent

  • All around midwifery experience

  • Evidence of post registration education

  • Completion of an approved programme of study leading to the Professional Midwifery Advocate qualification, at Masters (level 7) level

  • NLS Provider/Instructor status

  • Leadership course (accredited or nationally recognised)


Knowledge and Nature of Experience
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills and competency assessments

Analytical and Judgement Skills

  • Planning and delivering formal teaching sessions

  • Report Writing


Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

  • Detailed knowledge of current midwifery practices

  • Teaching skills, including using a range of teaching skills and presentation skills

  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills (able to make swift, appropriate decisions in an emergency).

  • Effective time management and demonstrates leadership qualities.

  • Computer literate, Word, Power Point, Outlook and Excel


Personal Skills/Abilities and Attributes

  • Effective time management skills, planning and organizing a range of complex activities such as an education programme or group clinical supervision

  • Ability to work as part of a team; working clinically when required, acting as a role model and mentor to the wider team
